Online Yoga Practice Guidelines
Inform your teacher of any physical injuries, medical conditions, or pregnancy when you sign up for a class
In the event of any serious medical condition, always consult your doctor before beginning a yoga practice.
Practice on an empty stomach. Avoid eating at least 2 hours before class.
Wear comfortable clothing, preferably from natural fibers.
For safety and comfort, practice on a sticky yoga mat. Use a sitting cushion for comfort and have a blanket ready. Some additional blankets and cushions can come in handy when practicing Yin Yoga.
Practice in a clean and clutter-free room.
For safety, make sure there is enough space around your mat in case you lose balance.
Avoid wearing perfume or having perfume in your practice space (including scented candles, incense, and even essential oils). This interferes with your breathing in general and with pranayama (breathing exercises) in particular.
Open a window for a constant flow of fresh air.
Minimize distractions. Tell people at home not to disturb you while you’re doing yoga. You need all your attention. Turn off your phone. Nothing is more distracting to the mind than constant notifications of incoming messages.
Give yourself a calm and relaxed start. Arrive on time, about 10 minutes before the session begins. Lie down on your mat in Savasana (corpse pose), relax, and bring your attention to your breath.
Try to refrain from drinking water during the yoga session. Hatha Yoga is designed to create heat in the body, and water has a cooling effect. Additionally, it’s not a great sensation to have water moving around in your stomach while practicing yoga postures. If your mouth and throat get dry, take a small sip of water (at room temperature). After the class, drink plenty of water or herbal tea.
Ideally, to help ensure a smooth and stable internet connection, connect your computer via a network cable, and quit all applications except Zoom.
